Clients have the legal and ethical right to confidentiality. This means the information shared in therapy will be kept within the context of therapy, except where law or ethics mandates otherwise (as will be discussed in your initial assessment). You must sign a consent to release information before information about you can be released to other people or institutions not covered under the mandates of law or ethics.

We do not accept insurance at this time. Although we are not on any insurance panels, we are able to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company, at your request.

We do not prescribe medication, but can give you a referral to a psychiatrist should we feel this would better your situation, in addition to therapy.

In the case that your needs are better served elsewhere, I will share my perspective on the situation with you. I will then provide you with other counseling referrals that may better serve you, if you would like them.

In general, if you are unable to keep an appointment, you must notify your therapist at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time.
You are responsible for keeping your scheduled appointments. With the exception of an emergency, you will be billed for all missed appointments that are not canceled at least 24 hours ahead of time.
Cancellation policies may vary from provider to provider. Talk to your provider to learn more about their specific cancellation policy.

We do not provide 24 hour crisis counseling. If you have an emergency, please call 9-1-1 or a local crisis counseling center for immediate assistance.

If you have additional questions or concerns between sessions, it is encouraged that you write them down to bring for our next session. If you believe it cannot wait until your next scheduled session, you may reach out.

To choose the right therapist for you, you should consider your goals. Find a therapist who specializes in your specific concerns and goals. It is important to find your therapist approachable and easy to talk to.
Therapists often have bios online that you can read to determine what their training, education, and their specialties include. These biographies can give you insight into who the therapist is and what their style might be. Don’t hesitate to contact him/her to further help make a decision for which you feel confident.

Are you confident in their ability to help you with your concern?Having a good fit makes a significant difference in making progress in counseling. It is recommended that you give your therapist 2-3 visits to find a connection, unless you are able to tell immediately that the personality fit is not going to click, in which case it makes the most sense to make a switch at that time.

Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes, while groups run longer per session. Clients typically meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis depending on the client’s needs. The length of time while in therapy will depend on the individual client’s circumstance. The therapist and client will determine that together.

As mental health therapists/counselors, the scope of treatment is talk therapy. Typically therapists have their master’s degree, and yearly cont. education. While psychologists also provide counseling services they also provide psychological testing for schools, courts, and other entities. Psychiatrists tend to limit their talk therapy/counseling services and are typically available for medication management. If your therapist feels that you may need medication, they will provide you with a referral to doctors that they may recommend. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in behavior. If medication is necessary, typically in these clients, medication and talk therapy are used together. Medication therapy is not a replacement for talk therapy.
